How to Create Wifi Hotspot using Command Prompt in Windows Laptop or PC



In my previous articles, I showed you how to create Wifi network in PC or Laptop using freeware software i.e. Virtual Router and mHotspot. Today I share with you how can you create Wifi Hotspot using command prompt step by step. By using this feature you can easily create Wifi Hotspot without any need of freeware software. To do this we require Windows PC or Laptop with Wifi card and Internet Connection which you want to share. 

Step 1:


Open Command prompt in Administrative Mode


Go to Start >> All Program >> Accessories >> Right Click on Command Prompt >> Click on Run as administrator

when you click on Run as administrator a command prompt will open



Step 2:

First we will check whether our PC or Laptop Hardware support Wifi Hotspot feature or not. To check this we use netsh wlan show drivers command as shown in image



If it shows Hosted network supported : Yes then you can create Wifi Hotspot on your machine and if it shows No then you can not create Hotspot on your machine and you should upgrade your wifi adaptor.

Step 3:


Create Hosted Network


Type netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=any_name key=any_password


Ex:- netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=ITTECH key=and12345



Now you can view in image Hosted network has been set to allow and your SSID and Password successfully changed.

Step 4:

Now type netsh wlan start hostednetwork
Before you type this command ensure that your wifi enable in your system otherwise it will give error.
Now you can view your hosted network started successfully.

Step 5:

Now we want to share Internet connection from data card or Ethernet with this hosted network. To do this Go to
Network and Sharing Center >> Change Adapter Settings



Now Right click on connection that you want to share in below image i want to share Idea internet connection then go to Properties.


Check on Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection.

Choose Wireless Network Connection as shown in image.

Step 6:

After do this click on Ok button now your Internt connection is shared with other device via wifi hostednetwork. Using command prompt you can also check how many device connected, status and settings of your hosted network.

Type netsh wlan show hostednetwork


In the above image you can see Number of clients : 1 is connected with your hostednetwork.

If you want to stop your hosted network type this command
netsh wlan stop hostednetwork
